PowerPoetry.org

Power Poetry is the first, and largest poetry website for young writers. The goal of the platform is to move users to action through empowered literacy. We are a digital community for poetry students who use innovative multimedia art as a tool for educational and social impact.

To date, we have engaged over 1 million poets, received over 526,000 poems from all 50 states and 175 countries, and mobilized 200,000 monthly active users to find the resources they need to write and share their stories with the world. .

Reaching teens where they are: Their phones

Our website meets students where they already are—online—and removes the barriers of cost, geography, and access that keep so many young people from participating in the literary arts. Through signature offerings such as digital poetry slams, scholarship opportunities, educator resources, an AI Poetry Helper tool, and a library of free poetry writing guides, we have built a vibrant community of socially engaged young poets.

The Impact

In order to analyze the true impact of the program, Power Poetry worked with a 3rd party data agency - Sumall Foundation - to do deep data modeling of the user community. The results revealed that poets that reached and passed the 10 poem mark showed improved literacy demonstrated through their poetry. What was more exciting was that the literacy improvement rates were significantly higher in low income ZIP codes.
